Phone harassement

''Jane'' was using profanity and making rude remarks to ''Kim'' (13)regarding ''Sue (14).'' Jane also made nasty remarks concerning ''Kim'' and sent her IM/emails containing profanity. Kim, Sue, and my daughter ''Lori (13),'' decided to retaliate and make calls to Jane. Lori, who does not even know Jane, left rude message on her cell phone and threatened to ''kick her tail''. The girls say they did not mean the threat, but never the less, left the message. Jane's mother called the police. She has not decided if they will press charges. What could be the outcome of this for my daughter and her friends if they do press charges? How long, in the state of VA, do the parents have in which they can press charges? Normally, my daughter and her friends are good kids that do not get into trouble and are good students. In the meantime, Jane, who supposedly did not want to drag this out, has emailed/IM several of her friends to tell them how she got the girls in trouble with the police.

Re: Phone harassement

Shame, shame, on these boisterous "younguns", particularly daughter Lori for threatening to "kick the tail" of someone she doesn't even know. (Such splenetic outbursts should surely be reserved for targets who are at least known to the spewer of such venom.)

As to the pressing of charges and possible outcome,

the poet T.S. Eliot once wrote about the world ending, "not with a bang but a whimper".

I would expect something similar from this manifestly juvenile incident.
