census bureau form

filled out short census form. they now want me to fill out the long form.Do I have to answer their personal questions such as income, car payments credit card payments what I owe on my mortgage what my house is worth. They say by law I have to answer their questions.I would appreciate a quick reply. thank you

Due to some internal delays at LawGuru, this answer is probably not quick enough to be useful to you. However, the short answer is yes.

You are required by law to answer the questions put to you by the census. Your responses are kept confidential by law for a VERY long time (I believe it is 100 years), and there is literally no way for anyone to obtain that information from the census bureau. The bureau aggressively fights all subpoenas and other requests for such information and, to my knowledge, has always prevailed.
