Legal Question in Construction Law in Virginia
Mechanic's Lien
The contractor finished building our house but the job was done poorly (based on a 3rd party review) and we didn't even pass inspection. We tried to work it out but he abandoned the job. Later he filed a mechanic's lien against us and recently sent us an itemized bill. Is there anything we can do to remove the lien? We had to hire someone else to fix the problems so we could move back into our house.

Re: Mechanic's Lien
Yes, the mechanic's lien is subject to challenge
and removal, and you should arrange for a consultation with an attorney who is familiar with such liens and related construction issues, and who should be able to advise you as to an appropriate course of action for this particular situation.
