Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia
Auto Purchase
I purchased an auto a month ago and the title was not processed within the 30 days that my temp registration was good for. Under the code of VA (46.2.1542) it looks like I have the right to return the vehicle for a refund but the dealer refused. What are my rights, and how do I go about returning it?

Re: Auto Purchase
We've used 46.2-1542 in many cases. It must be applied very cautiously. It doesn't grant an automatic right to rescind a contract as most people believe. Dealers, under the law, are given an opportunity for extensions under certain circumstances. My recommendation, as usual, is to consult with a consumer attorney. In many cases, there are other issues that also impact the car sale which may prove more productive.
