Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia
Auto purposely damaged by mechanic
On Jan 14th, I took in my car to get several cosmetic things fixed. When I returned on the 18th to pick up my car, my car's power steering system was broken and there was a puddle of steering fluid on the ground. My car's engine was in perfect condition when I gave it to them. I NEVER had any problems with my power steering or leakage. I am convinced that they tampered with my car. I already spent $800 to fix the stuff i brought it in for and now they want an additional $500 to fix the power steering. I do not have the money. What kind of lawyer do i need and what should i do?

Re: Auto purposely damaged by mechanic
You may want to call your insurance company or agent. See if this is covered as vandalism and ask them to send an adjuster to inspect cause of transmission failure.
Assuming a favorable response, you could let the shop know the adjuster is coming. You could also have the car towed to another shop for a determination on what happened to the trans. As for what type of attorney, if indeed this was deliberate, you would want a civil litigation attorney.
