Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia
Buying
I've bought a used car from a dealship. Before I signed the paperwork concerning the ''as is'', I wanted to know about a problem that I has found and was stating to them(i.e.; oil leaking). They claim it was just the front oil seal and nothing else. A week later(after I has the front oil seal repaired). It was leaking again. It turns out the engine is bad and needs to be replaced. The question is, is there any recourse for me to get the dealship to pay for the repair work?
Thanks, DC

Re: Buying
Yes. The Virginia Consumer Protection Act forbids conduct that is "false, fraudulent, deceptive, or misleading". And it doesn't really matter what the contract says, you can still sue under the VCPA. If it was a willful violation, you can get treble damages. The minimum statutory damages is $500 plus attorneys' fees.
See Va. Code sect. 59.1-196 et seq. and/or find a consumer protection attorney in your area.
