Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia
cancel service agreement
We hired a weekly residential cleaning service that had an auto-renewing service contract unless 30 days written notice. We had an incident with the owner who is very non professional and we don't want to give this guy any more business. We gave written notice of cancellation within 14 days or original expiration date, but didn't make the 30 day deadline. The owner does not want to negotiate at all, is playing hardball and is legally holding us to another 13 week contract at a slightly higher rate, as per the service agreement. Anything I can do?

Re: cancel service agreement
Notwithstanding the 13 week automatic renewal, the contract may have a dismissal for cause procedure. Sometimes, these give the servicer a right to notice and opportunity to cure. You may want to have an attorney look over the agreement for you.
