Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

cancelling a check

I was overcharged thousands of dollars for a car repair a shop didn't complete. When I picked up my car they warned me if any other parts went, that I would charged. The car broke down on the way home. I called them but they wanted to charge me more money to tow it back to them and look it over. I cancelled the check because I didn't want to be sucked out of more money for a service that wasn't performed. I refuse to bring it back to them because I don't know what else they'll do to the car. The car was towed to another mechanic who is now looking it over for analysis. What are my consumer rights?

Re: cancelling a check

Hard to say at this point with respect to the allegedly substandard car repair work for which you cancelled your payment, but I would not worry too much about it until you're served with a warrant in debt by the repair shop.

Re: cancelling a check

If you were truly overcharged that much, you might consider filing a suit under the repair facilities act and other consumer laws, as well as for fraud. You will need to decide whether you want to wait until they sue you or not.
