Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

how can i get my car back from a garage that won't release it?

A garage looked at my car and gave me a price to fix. I said no thanks and asked how long i had to remove the car from there garage. The garage owner's daughter told me there would be No Charge for the dervice and that i could get the car when it suited me. Being from another state, i told her it would be aprox 2-2.5 weeks before i could get it out. She said that would be fine. Then 2 weeks later, the company I sent to get the car was told it was NOT being Released. Can this happen? And how do i get my car back?

Pay the storage charges(assuming that's what's being demanded) and then contact the local consumer affairs agency where the garage is located. If they are not able to help, your next stop should be the small claims court in the jurisdiction where the garage is located.

You have to consider the possibility that the

person who identified herself to you as the garage owner's daughter, may not have had the authority to give you the permission which you thought you had received to keep your vehicle there that length of time.
