Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

used car purchase

I just bought a used car from a dealer. It was dark after the test drive and the car looked to be in excellent shape. Car fax showed no accidents and he said he looked it over and only found some over spray on a door that might have been repaired.

Because the car was a new trade in, they still had to pull it in to their shop for inspection.

After that, I brought the car home, again at night. The next morning, in the daylight, I was shocked to see the front bumber paint was cracked and peeling, obviously a front end collision result.I don't believe I will be able to run this car through a carwash without further damage to the paint. The dealer said he didn't know about it until they were detailing the car after my purchase, so it is now my problem.

I can't believe they didn't know about this. They looked my trade in over pretty good and would have imagine they'd done the same on this one.

Am I just a fool for not giving the car a once over with the flashlight and for trusting the dealer's words?

I really would like out of the deal.

Re: used car purchase

There are legal ways to get out of a bad car deal--they are too numerous to list here. If the car was in an accident and the dealer hid it from you or assured you that it had not been then that could constitute a violation of the law and get you relieve in a court of law. You should contact a consumer lawyer with experience in auto dealer fraud.
