Is it legal to purchase a car and then have someone esle pay for it as if it were their car?

Depends upon how the purchase was made by the purchaser. If by cash, should not be a problem; however, if the purchaser applied for a bank or other financial institution loan and made fraudulent representations on the loan application, then the purchaser could be in for big trouble.
