Contractor damages railings while installing gutters
I have a signed proposal/contract with a company to replace my house gutters, and while doing the job the like new extruded aluminum railings and porch posts were damaged by denting and scratching. The price is $1500 dolloars and the cost of replacement of the damaged items will likely be as much. Spot painting the proch items is not a desireable solution since the railings were powder-coated, though I can get matching paint from the manufacturer. What should I do from this point forward to insure I am not at a loss due to the contractor's/subcontractor's carelessness? Thanks.

Make a formal demand for payment for the costs involved in repairing the damage(by sending a letter, properly itemizing the damages)to these folks whom you believe are responsible for causing the damage to your property.
Then, if they refuse or ignore your demand for payment, file you case in small claims court for around $40.
