Dealership Owes Me Money
I live in Ohio and bought a vehicle in Virginia 2 months ago. The dealership said they could not include me tax and title fees into the car loan because I was out of state and that I would need to pay the tax myself in Ohio. They then said they could just raise the car price by their estimated tax amount so that it could be a part of the car loan and that they would then send me a company check in the mail for the tax amount that they added to the loan, and I would use the money to pay the tax amount in Ohio. The company gave me the run around for two months telling me to call and talk to different people at their other dealership locations to get the check sent to me, and now they are telling me there is nothing they can do for me and they won’t send me the money. They owe me thousands of dollars now that was added to my car loan. How can I legally go about getting them to pay me this money?

Sue them in Virginia small claims court for up to $5000 on your next trip to the Commonwealth. You can do this for a filing fee of around $40 and once they're served with papers, your check for what is owed will likely be forthcoming.

Based on my experience, dealers like this only respond to lawsuits but you must prove that there was an agreeement to send you the tax money. Most of the time they don't put these type agreements in writing, in fact, there's usually a standard clause in their contracts that denies any other agreements. There's also a way around the clause if you can prove it was part of the agreement between you and the dealership. My advice consult with a Virginia attorney.
