Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

I am forced to listen to music in restaurants, stores, etc.

I think that it is wrong for me to be forced to listen to music in restaurants, stores, etc. There are laws agenst smoking, air and water polution. Why cant I do something about noise pollution going into my head? I find it frustrating that someone can pump this stuff into my brain without my consent. I go to restraunts to eat. I want to use my brain to think, but find it hard when someone is hollering there silly songs into my head. Also music is a very individual taste how can they tell what kind I like if I did like it? Is this not descriminatoy. I think that if a few restraunt chains were sued they would put a stop to this infringement on my right to peace and happyness. Has anyone ever been sued over this? I am sure I am not the only person anoyed by the music. Mabe there is a form I can send them to get it stopped. Mabe they could be required to have a quiet section like the no smoking section. This has bothered me for many years could you please send me an email with your views on the subject? Thank You Very Much.

Nobody is "forcing" you to do anything. You are free to eat at home or shop by mail order. Take your business elsewhere, or wear earplugs or noise-cancelling earphones, or get an iPod and fill it up with music you DO like. You could even open a noise-free store or restaurant of your own.
