Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

We have a gym membership of which we have paid the year in advance and good through January 2011. We just got a letter in the mail from the gym that they want to charge us an additional 'enhancement' fee of $30 for 'replacement and upgrades of equipment and the physical structure of the facilities themselves'. Is this legal? I feel this is an illegal modification to our already agreed-upon, and paid-for contract.

Read the contract and all terms and conditions carefully and object if language not in there. If you did not agree to this, don't pay it.
