Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia
hotel reservation
I made an online hotel reservation and forgot to cancel it when travel plans changed. Two weeks later, I remembered and contacted the hotel directly and was told I would be liable for one night's lodging cost because they were full that evening and turned away other customers. [They did place that charge on my credit card.] I asked them if they were over-booked that night but they would not say. We contacted management but their response was that the decision (to charge us or not) was up to the local property's manager. QUESTION: Am I really liable for this charge or is this their bluff? I can protest the charge through my credit card but I do not want to pursue that if I really am liable for this oversight.

Re: hotel reservation
You should be responsible for this charge only if you were given proper notice of it when you initially made the reservation.
