Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

My husband was hospitalized. I was out of the state @ the time & didn't sign any of the paper work. He has since passed away. The insurance company said it was preexisting & wouldn't pay the claim. I am I responsible for the bill as his widow?

No, your deceased husband's estate (such as it may be) should be

considered as having primary responsibility for this particular bill with you,

perhaps, being secondarily responsible (if there are insufficient estate assets) only if the creditor can prove that these hospital expenses incurred in your husband's behalf qualified as what the law terms "necessaries of life" (in my opinion).
