Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

Can my minor child be reimbursed monies?

My minor daughter signed a contract to become part of a union onher job. After signing she asked the union representative not to sign her up because she needed to discuss the matter with her parents. However, she was enrolled and became a member of the union. I contacted the union and advised them that Chapter 11 of the Consumer Law states that any minor who enters into a contract without consentof their guardian does not have to keep the contract. The union has cancelled her membership but have refused to return the fees that were deducted from her paycheck totalling $90.00. How can my daughter get her money back.

Re: Can my minor child be reimbursed monies?

You could send a demand notice to the union for the return of these funds.

Then, if such fails to occur, you could sue in small claims court in behalf of your minor child styled

in the plaintiff mode as "Next of Friend".

Re: Can my minor child be reimbursed monies?

She could file suit in General District Court, but the reimbursement, if any, may be controlled by the contract. I am not sure how she was allowed to sign such a contract, nor why she would sign. Not sure what consumer law you are referring to either.
