Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia
Obligation to Karate Contract
Two years ago I signed my 2 daughters up for Karate and signed a contract. 6 months into the program my daughters and I left the state to go to a domestic violence shelter. Shortly after that I called the karate center to advise them that for the safety of my daughters I would not be able to continue to bring them there. They said they understood and hoped everything would be okay. Then several weeks ago i get served a summons to appear in court from the Karate place saying I owe them 3,000 plus attorney fees. They never in two years contacted me regarding paying them and my assumption is they didn't expect me to pay. Went to court and was told to return for trial in January. Not sure what to do here?

Re: Obligation to Karate Contract
For $3000 + attorney's fees, you should have an attorney to represent you in this matter.
If you can't afford to hire one, the local legal aid society may be able to provide you with one.
