Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

Overage Charges From Following Carrier's Suggestion To Track Minutes

My cell phone carrier's primary recommended method of tracking minutes is to use their website. I did and never went over my limit. I was then billed overages charges that do not appear on the website. I was then informed that the website has a 48 to 72 hour delay. This is not posted anywhere in my contract or on the website. They do not dispute this, but say I am still responsible. So my question is, if this charge resulted from their failure to properly warn me (and all customers) of this delay, how can they penalize me? To tell a customer to do something, then charge him when he listens, sounds to me like a scam.

Re: Overage Charges From Following Carrier's Suggestion To Track Minutes

If you pay your phone bill by credit card you could probably put in contest with your card issuer whatever penalties were assessed for the so-called overage but not the regular charges for the extra minutes.

This adverse event might also be a warning to you of sorts that it's time for you to look for a different carrier.
