Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia
Renters liability
I am renting a condo. I have renters insurance. I recently had a small fire accident in my apartment and a portion of the carpet got burned.
My question is who has to pay for replacing the carpet? If the owner asks me to pay for the new carpet does my renters insurance cover the cost?

Re: Renters liability
It depends on what the exact terms of the insurance contract says. You need to get a copy of your insurance contract. Of course the insurance company will not want to pay anything, so you need to not believe them right away if they say no.

Check with your insurance agent. The carpet will either be replaced by the homeowner's policy (which your landlord should have) or your renter's insurance.
