Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

Service in exchange for a auto.

I made a contract with a person who is starting a new auto service business to paint my truck "professional paint job". This painter when over the alowed time and delivered my truck at night (dark). Picked up the other exchange auto but I didn't give him the title. I told him that I had to see the painted truck in the day light. The job in not acceptable and I am getting other estimates to fix the job. What are my options: I don't need the exchange auto but I wanted to sell the painted truck when I got it back for a higher price that I bought it. Now it will cost me more to fix which means the whole deal is costing me. This painter is a young person with weak finances who I was trying to help get some business under his belt.

If the painter has breached the contract and failed to deliver a workmanlike paint job, which you now must spend extra funds to repair, your legal damages which you could pursue against this person would appear to be your additional costs involved in now getting the paint job done properly on your truck.
