Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia
Service Termination
I called the cable company on Feb 12 to request for disconnecting the service at the end of February. The customer rep. confirmed it. One week later my wife called again to verify, another customer rep. confirmed it again. I returned the leased modem on April 12. However, they still charged me for March and partial of April service with the reason they cannot verify if I still used their service in March and April until I returned the modem. Is it legal to do that. Please advice.
Thank you.

Re: Service Termination
No, they cannot. If you tell them to disconnect
as of a certain date, it is THEIR problem if
they don't get it done by that day. SO if
they keep it open longer than that, that is
their problem.
The problem is that you will have a "did too" /
"did not" dispute. So the question is whether
the court BELIEVES that you told them to
discontinue the service.
Of course, that does not mean they will
voluntarily agree to stop asking you for the
money. You will probably have to wait until
they sue you, make sure you go to court and
DENY the claim, and then they will probably lose.
