Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia
is spaming illegal in va.
I would like to know if it is illegal to pick out several businesses from the yellow pages & send them a e-mail messages about a new business that is going to start up. There are two different groups we want to target attorneys & insurance companies.

Yes, it is. Some attorneys believe that it is also illegal under federal law as well, either on the premise that spam is (according to the statutory definition) a "fax", or that the telephone equipment is being used for unsolicited sales pitches. It is generally illegal to use telephone lines for initial contacts ("cold calling"). There are exceptions, such as calling prior customers.
