Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

arbitration

Can a debt collector start arbitration against me in another state. I am in a debt solution program trying to get my cards paid off. One debt collector threatened arbitration against me but they are in Ga. The agency Mann Bracken of Ga has called me 22 times since 9/2 and are now saying it is going to arbitration. They are known for doing this withou notifying consumers. How can I find out if they are going to arbitration.I have income of ss and an ira that pays me each month(which I have little of now). I am a widow and my house payment is over 1550 a month so I have no money left each month except for groceries and utilities and a car apyment.

Re: arbitration

Unless you incurred the debt in GA, they have to arbitrate where you are located. Mann Bracken has a Va. office. Your IRA and Social Security are exempt from attachment.
