Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia
automobile sale
I sold a vehicle and put a lien on it. The buyer did not pay nor register the vehicle. I got a replacement title from DMV. The buyer's brother in law is a tow operator and states he has the vehicle and $530 is owed for repairs. Who is responsible for the repair bill? How do I go about recovering the vehicle?

Re: automobile sale
The owner(apparently you) of record whose name is on the title to the vehicle is the one who will have to pay for the repairs in order to retrieve the vehicle from the tow operator. However, if the vehicle was damaged while in the possession of the defaulting buyer or otherwise operated in a manner which caused the vehicle to require the $530 worth of repairs, then you could sue this person in small claims court and possibly receive a judgment for at least part of your damages.
