Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Avoid a garnishment

in 02 I turned a vehicle back in to the co because I could no longer pay for it (co closure). I did this voluntarily. They sold the car, marked my credit as rep and told me I still had to pay for the car. I did not. I started trying to clean up my credit and now they want to garnish my wages. How long will it take the process for them to garnish my wages?

Re: Avoid a garnishment

The company will first need to obtain a valid judgment against you for whatever you may owe on the vehicle before any garnishment summons may be issued by the court to your employer, but this may no longer be possible if the presumed five year statute of limitations on the contract has in fact already passed.
