Re: bad check
In Va. Code Sec. 18.2-181, a bad check is defined as a crime of larceny; prosecutable as a Class 1 misdemeanor offense if less than $200 or as a Class 6 felony if $200 or more.
Re: bad check
If you deliberately wrote a worthless check on an account that you knew was closed, in return for goods or services which you received, and thereby defrauded another person(s) or entity, that's a bad check crime for which you could be prosecuted in the Commonwealth.
Better contact the defrauded one(s) and make the check good--QUICK! (And, no, they would not have to follow "debt collection law" in the afore-described scenario, but merely go to the cops and swear out a warrant for your arrest.)
