can a creditor from an old acct., 1998, after charing the acct., off and removing it from a credit report still ask for payment

Of course, the old creditor can ask

for anything she or he wants to; however, whether there is a basis to enforce the claim in law is quite another matter.(Charging off a debt has no legal significance since this is merely an accounting maneuver which removes an item from a company's ledger

of countable assets.)
