Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

I cashed a government check at a 3rd party check cashing store, the funds were then recalled by the govt, I paid the check cashing store back a large portion of the funds but fell short, they are now threatening criminal action. Is that possible?

Yes, since they're already apparently threatening, but if you mean

could you possibly be criminally charged under these facts as described, without knowing more, it would be difficult to say with any certainty, but I

would not dismiss the possibility (if I were you).
