Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia
civil warrant of debt
Last February, I was admitted into UVA Med. Ctr. via the ER. My health insurance has paid up 90%. In September, I received a letter from the UVA Judicial Committee stating to contact them to avoid damage to my credit or a judgement. I called and set up arrangements. They divide hospital bills between two agencies, physician bills to HSF and the hospital expenses to UVA. While setting up the arrangements I told her I would have to finish off the doctor portion and then continue payments until the hospital portion is also paid off. She said nothing. We just set the date. A few weeks after I started making payments to HSF as instructed, I recieved a warrant in debt in the mail from the Judicial Committee who I had just set up the arrangements with. The money amount told me it was for the hospital portion. They had never made any additional attempts to contact me, although I asked them to if there were any problems. The court date is Nov. 29th. About a week ago I found a copy of the warrant outside on the ground near some bushes. I had been available working right inside for that and the previous 14 days and there were no knocks at the door. Is this all proper and what can I do if I don't have all the money by the 29th?

Re: civil warrant of debt
The 29th is almost certainly not a trial date, but the date to set a trial. So if you don't have the money by then, just go to court and set a trial date. You can also talk to the lawyer for the plaintiff to try to work out a settlement or payment plan.

Why not call the hospital judicial committe to find out what happened to
the arrangement which you apparently thought had been agreed to by the representative whom you negotiated with on this matter?
