Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Collecting a loan

Hello. Several months ago, I loaned a girlfriend about $500. We've since broken up and I don't think she's going to repay the loan. Unfortunately, I neglected to get anything in writing stating that she would repay the loan. We only had a verbal agreement with no witnesses. Do I have any recourse in collecting the loan? I seriously doubt that I have a case but just want to make sure. Thanks.

Re: Collecting a loan

You do have recourse, but it'll be up to you to prove the money was loaned rather than given. You can do that with other witnesses who were aware that the money was loaned, and by your own testimony. I'll tell you, though, it wouldn't be worth the five hundred dollars to me to have to work that hard.
