Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Collecting money from friends

Coming up to two years ago i loaned what averages out to about $5000 to three of my room mates over time for rent and utilities while they were on hard times. They signed a promissory note that had a repay deadline for this past March. Now they make as much or more than me and have the ability to make more or less since that work hospitality in a very affluent Fairfax. They are aware of the deadline and i have provided them with notification of the impending deadline and even offered several options to make payments whether full or partial. Now that we no longer live together they have done all they can to ignore any communication or do their best to put it off. What should i do as far as getting my money returned to me in a timely fasion? Is court a possible solution, does that mean i get my money or does it get tied up and delay any payment?

Re: Collecting money from friends

Small claims court where you can sue for up to 5K would appear to be your best remedy for this situation.
