Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Collection Calls--Not Mine

I continually get credit calls for people I don't know because

the applicant uses my phone number on the application.

United Consumer has informed me that I have to call them

back every time a new person uses my number.

Is there any requirement for them to put my name on a

general do not call list? Is this considered harassment

because we are required to call them back to stop the

constant calling. The first call I received was for a Stephanie.

The latest call was for a Joseph. There has been several calls

in between.

Because it is a computer calling they don't hear the names of

the people on my answering machine. Even looking in a

phone book will let them know the people they are looking for

most likely does not live there.

Please help me. These calls have caused much grief. To

change my phone number of over 10 years will also be an

issue being it is also my work number.

Thank you,

Paulette Alves

You should check your credit (you can get a free copy each year at annualcreditreport.com) and then consult an attorney about filing a suit, if necessary. Feel free to contact me for further help or a referral.
