Are companies required to produce a receipt or monthly statement?

I owe a non-profit agency money loaned to me. I started paying the loan, though late, but I started paying. I asked after paying for about two months for a monthly statement or receipt (I pay by check). I got a letter back basically that said ''pay according to agreement or you will be taken to court''. This is the second or third letter I have received, but no monthly statement. Is it within my rights to demand either a receipt or statement?

Yes, it would certainly appear reasonable for you to expect to recieve (at least periodically)some receipt or statement confirming the payments which you have made to this company for a debt which you agree that you owe.

Perhaps, you would get a more courteous (and reasonable) response if you were to call on the telephone(or even stopped by the organization, if possible)and asked to speak personally with the appropriate person who has the authority to act on your request and make it happen.
