Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Confidential Information Unauthorized

A collection agency sent me a copy of my truck contract with another persons driver's license attached to it and not my own copy. Who received my information? Did they break a privacy law or confidential information law?

Re: Confidential Information Unauthorized

The real question is where did the company get a copy of your driver's license? If you provided a copy in order to get credit, then you gave your permission, and I think any complaint would be weak. Of course they did not have permission to send it to someone else. However, it sounds like an unintentional mistake, so I don't think you would get very far attacking that action. If you got someone else's driver's license, of course you can contact them and see if they got yours.
