Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Corporate Credit Card

My former employer did not close out my corporate credit card after laying me off. They were pressuring me to pay the card off or balance transfer the amount due, when I found out that the credit account was owed by my company not me. I called them on this and they paid the card off. When I left the company there was a balance of $3000+ by they time the closed the account it was $6700 (no new charges, just financing and late fees). Now they are saying I owe the company $7300 ($6700 plus leagal fees) if I do not want to be sued. Should I take out a loan and just pay this off, or should I negotiate?

Re: Corporate Credit Card

Why should you have to pay the late charges and finance fees on a company account if all of these were incurred

as a result of charges attributable to your former employer rather than you?

Unless, of course, you were in fact responsible for at least some of these charges and therefore for some of the interest and late fees which may have been susequently assessed. If such is the case then you, of course, should negotiate a settlement for your legitimate share of this debt. Otherwise, I'd tell them to forget it.
