Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

court cost

I have an electric bill past due, I have moved and just got a court summons, The bill is going to be paid before the court date and they want court cost up front, I am wondering if I owe the costs as they did not get a judgement for them yet. Should I pay now or wait and go to court?

Re: court cost

Yes, if the utility went to the trouble of filing the case, they're entitled to the costs involved in such an exercise, and, if they were to prevail with their claim in court, would be awarded such costs as part of the judgment against you.
