Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

I got court papers that I have to go to court because my son got in trouble with the law he was in the custody of his dad but they're coming after me to pay his fine I need a vice this case is held in Steuben County Indiana but I live here in Staunton Virginia I don't understand how to be responsible to pay my son court costs and whatever else you have to pay

Well, why not ask "them" (whoever them may be) under what authority are you being requested to pay your son's "court costs and whatever else you (think you may) have to pay"?
