Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia
Old Credit Accounts
About 7 years ago I filed for Chapter 13 which was a repayment plan for 5 years. Well it was too expensive so after one year, I was no longer able to afford the payments and asked the filing to be dismissed. This process happened over 7 years ago. Today, since time has lapse, most of those creditors have fallen off my credit report. The problem today is that they are now re-reporting me as of 2007. What should I do? Do they have the right do this to me? Most of those debts were sold to other creditors and I never repaid them due to a divorce. Any advise?

Re: Old Credit Accounts
If the debts which you reference were the subject of a bankruptcy filing within the last seven years, they very likely can continue to be reported on your credit record(s)for up to 10 years or so from the date of the bankruptcy.
