Re: credit cared scaming

1) Write (I said, "WRITE"; a telephone call is just words in the air, gone as soon as you're done talking) a letter to your credit card issuer within sixty days of the statement on which the charge was reported to you. Tell your credit card issuer that the charge was fraudulent and that you didn't authorize it, nor did anyone with access to your card authorize it. Demand that they conduct an investigation and credit your account.

2) Go to the police and report the credit card fraud. You should call your local branch office of the FBI, too, if they're located out of your state. Also use the Federal Trade Commission online complaint form on the FTC website.

3) File suit under the Virginia Prizes and Gifts Act and the Virginia Consumer Protection Act. It provides for treble damages and attorneys' fees in cases of willful violations.

(BTW, if you take the trip, it's going to be hard to say you were ripped off. That's what the scammers are depending on.)
