Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Credit collections

We purchased $2400 worth of merchandise from large retailer. We gave the retailer our address for delivery. Because of 911 being added to our community this address was changed this December, before we bought the merch. The finance company for the retailer had a former mailing address (we didn't move, just had the address changed). Billing statements were never delivered to us. The finance co. called today and said we were 42 days past due on payment and demanding sending check info over the phone for payment. I refused. I told them we will overnight a check. The finance rep told us that this will be on our credit rating because of this default. What can we do?

Re: Credit collections

Pay, quickly, and then phone the finance company and ask to speak with a supervisor in order to explain the situation and request that the account not be reported as delinquent.
