Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia
My daughter lives in the state of Virginia. She just found out that a Rent to Own company has a warrant out for her from 3 years ago for failure to pay for a room size air conditioner. We are willing to contact the Rent to Own store and pay the debt, but she is worried she will have to go to jail and be taken away from her two babies, which are 18 months and 1 month old. Can this happen?

Yes, if your daughter self surrenders to the local sheriff's department, she may have to spend a few hours in the local slammer, "coolin' her heels" as they used
to say back in mid-20th Century America until she can be released on
personal recognizance bond.
However, if she retains a local criminal defense counsel to represent her, this attorney could probably make things go more smoothly for her.
