debt collections

got a phone call from a debt collection company. they asked me to do an out of court settlement ,told them i would have to talk to my husband first.we only have one income. they said they checked my finances and my assets.was told that if i didn't do something soon i would have to go back to court. so i gave them my husbands banking info. because i thought i would loose the land my home is on. when i told my husband what happened he closed the account. now i am getting calls from the debt collection people ,they make it sound like i did something illegal. did i? and what can they do now.

No, you've done nothing illegal, but before doing something else equally foolish such as needlessly turning over other information to creditors regarding your assets which could possibly be subject to seizure, you would be well advised to arrange for a consultation with an attorney who is experienced with credit, debt, and collection matters.
