old debt reappears

four years ago i had a judgement against me for this debt. i was paying them seventy dollars a month then all of a sudden the checks i was sending to pay my debt were being returned. i subsquently stopped sending the checks and now four years later a collection agency has contacted me for payment plus four years of interest that i don't think i owe, because i was sending the money and the money was sent back. what if anything can i do to elimanate this problem?

Unless you had an AGREEMENT that they would take $70/mo. and not charge interest, they were not obligated to accept it. You owe the remaining principal balance of the judgment plus interest at the rate provided for in the judgment, plus court costs. About the only things you can do to resolve it are (a) pay it; (b) work it out, if the judgment creditor is willing; or (c) file bankruptcy if you cannot afford to pay it.
