Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Debt relating to a deceased person

My fiance was murdered and he has since accrued past due bills and accounts in collections. What info do we need to provide to the creditors and Who is responsible for paying those accounts sent to collections. He had no will, property or assets.

Re: Debt relating to a deceased person

A copy of the death certificate with a brief cover letter of explanation should be sent to each of the creditors with a note to the effect that the deceased died without a will, had no assets or property of any note and therefore none such are available to pay any of his outstanding debts.

Obviously, in the above type of situation, no one

can be held responsible for paying any accounts which may have been sent for collection.
