Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Debts of deceased

My wife had two credit cards and on unsecured loan that she took out in her name. She did not include me in the aplications and only used her income information on the applications. Before she died I tried to contact these creditors for information and they would not talk to me at all.

Am I responsible for these debts? All of our possesions are in both of our names.

Re: Debts of deceased

Probably not, particularly, if the charges which your deceased wife made on the cards were not for the purpose of securing what the law commonly refers to as the so-called "necessaries of life", e.g., medical care, food, shelter, etc.
