Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Before divorcing my x-husband he signed a statement aknowledging the fact that he owed me over $11,000 for a loan that I extended to him covering his personal credit card debt.I have since divorced him&moved to Va from NJ.He still owes me over $8,500.He claims to be homeless & jobless but is scheduled to start collecting Social Security in the amount of $750.00 monthly in May 2010.Will I have trouble suing him for this debt & is it possible that a judge will attach his SS benefits so that I may recover this loan?

No, his SS check will most likely be immune from any enforcement action that

you might undertake on any judgment that you might receive from a New Jersey

court for this kind of personal debt.
