Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

My employment garnishment my check, but didn't give me any paperwork about the garnishment.Do they suppose to give me the information and if they don't what I do next.

Yes, ask your HR for a copy of the Summons in Garnishment with which they were suppose to have been served. If they cannot produce it, then call the clerk's office of your local general district court to determine whether they have a record of it.

If they do, then go there and get a copy of it and examine it for errors. And, if, perhaps, you simply don't recognize what it's all about, then tell the clerk that you were never served with these papers and therefore want to request a hearing on this garnishment.

If the clerk's office has no record of issuing the summons in garnishment to the garnishee(your employer), then you had better consult with a local attorney who can further advise you on this matter.

I agree with Mr. Hendrickson. Some employers will not give this to you and you will need to see the clerk of court. Good luck.
