Garnishments

I just received a garnishment for $414.78, last tuesday on thursday I recieved a summons for court for june... my question can they garnish you before appearing in court, and if so what is the point in going to court if they garnished you? also can a company garnish you if you paid majority of the amount due?

The company can garnish you if they've obtained a valid judgment against you

through the courts. The summons in garnishment hearing is to give the debtor an opportunity to contest anything improper in the way the garnishment has been implemented, such as taking an amount greater than that permitted by law, i.e, more than 25% of net salary after all mandatory deductions.
